My sixth day on Long Island started off by going to Bagel Boss Cafe, the local bagel shop I was recommended. I was supposed to try the life changing bagels that are New York bagels. Bagel Boss offers over twenty bagel flavors with a wide variety of cream cheese options. I decided on a cranberry bagel with a little bit of cream cheese..they proceeded to murder my bagel in cream cheese. I could have spread cream cheese from my bagel and covered three more bagels. A total waste of cream cheese. Overall the bagel was good, but it tasted no different than any other bagel I have ever had. I appreciated Bagel Boss’s wide variety of options for not only their bagels but for all their other breakfast and lunch options. Definitely had a little of everything for everyone. It was very busy so seems to be a local hot spot. I was later called crazy when I reported back that I found New York bagels no better than any other bagel.

My cranberry bagel after I scrapped mass amounts of cream cheese off of it.
The plan was to spend a few hours over at Heckscher State Park. This is a large state park offering beaches, camping, play grounds, and picnic areas. The landscape had that cold bleak look about it because it’s winter and everything is dead. However, you could see that the park is probably beautiful in the spring and summer months. We wandered on one of the beaches for a while but the wind coming off the water was bitter cold. It was hard to enjoy the surroundings when you are that cold. It was the coldest I have felt since being on Long Island. We drove around the park a bit, noticing some new cabins had been built. They are identical and equally spaced out from one another. Each cabin had a little view of the water and are probably really nice places to stay in season.
For dinner I returned to the Oconee Diner. You could eat there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for at least two weeks straight and still not have tried the entire menu. This time I had the Chicken Souvlaki. Deliciously seasoned grilled chicken with peppers and onions on a pita bread. Served with a yellow rice and a Greek Salad. It was one of the dinner specials I also got a little scoop of ice cream. Too much food but it was all so good.
Tomorrow’s plan is to head to the Orient area, which is out on the northeast most tip of Long Island. Looking forward to exploring new areas and I was told the beaches out there are really nice.
The next few blogs will be finishing up my Long Island trip. Stick around to see what happens out in Orient.
