Christmas Eve:

Christmas Eve morning we woke up at 5:30am to take some sunrise pictures. Our original plan was to go back to the Fire Island lighthouse and try and get some cool shots of the sunrise over the lighthouse. The plan was ruined by all the fields in Robert Moses State Park being gated off. We knew the park would be technically be closed that early but we didn’t realize there would be no where to legally park. It was decided we would not risk being illegally parked for such a long period of time so we had to come up with another plan.

Eventually we decided to go to Captree Park on the other island. We found a nice pier to stand on for pictures facing Fire Island. On the pier we could see the lighthouse off in the distance. From that angle we would not be able to get both the sunset and the lighthouse in one picture without being super zoomed out. This was not necessarily a bad thing, just not the dramatic shots I was originally hoping for.

It was a beautiful morning to be out, very cold but the sky was gorgeous. After being up so early in the morning, I felt a long nap was much needed. The rest of the day was spent napping before going to a Christmas Eve party later that night.

Christmas Day:

Christmas day was a sleep in kind of morning. I ate the last of the bialys in the house which was a delicious yet sad realization. Definitely going to try buying some fresh ones to bring back to North Carolina with me. During the afternoon I went back to the East Islip Marina for a little bit before heading back to Robert Moses State Park. Explored the beaches of field 5 while there. Field 5 did not have the purple sands that field 2 did even though they are on the same side of the island and only a short drive away from each other. This kind of surprised me. I expected the beaches along the coast to be relatively the same.

Christmas night was spent at a party where delicious food and fresh squeezed blood orange martinis were served.

All around was a very nice day. I was told I had to try a real New York bagel and was recommended a local place to get them. I was to report back and let everyone know what I thought of them. So that is on the agenda for tomorrow.
